Reading 1: Introduction to Network Marketing

Many people have for the last 100 years been seeking ways to create financial security through opportunities that network marketing can provide. Unfortunately, there are still a lot many people who have the wrong impression of exactly what network marketing is all about.
Network marketing is not about one individual getting rich at the expense of others or by getting them to buy useless products or services. Instead, network marketing is a way of being in business with the people who buy the products and services that you promote and distribute, and can allow you to create a long term growing business.
How to get involved in network marketing?
More and more companies are today finding it easy to distribute their products and services through word-of-mouth marketing because of the obvious power that people have to influencing each other’s behaviour.
The power of this social effect that people have on each other have a significant impact on the success of those using it and has the unique benefit of creating a lucrative business opportunity for individuals who are willing to exploit it.
When creating a networking environment in which to market your products or services, you will find that there are three distinct groups of customers with very different behaviour in the market:
The low-status customers:
This is the majority group and consists of people that are not well connected or show limited interaction with other people and are unaffected by social pressures.
The middle-status customers:
This is the second largest group and consists of people that are moderately connected, show reasonable purchase activity of multi level marketing products and services and have a strong and positive outlook to life. In other words, this group can easily “keep up with the Jones”
The high-status customers:
This is the smallest and well connected group and differentiates itself from others by strongly pursuing network marketing related activities. To this group, networking for a reward is easy and fun, and require following of an easy set of rules in order to succeed.
How do companies create this market?
Network marketing results when a company decide on making more sales with a lot of sales representatives selling only a small amount of product each, compared to trying to have few sales representatives selling a lot of products each. The market is then easily created by inviting the High-status customers to promote and distribute the company’s products and services for a reward in their own network circles. Naturally, this well connected group will start growing the company customer base first when they begin promoting and selling to their friends, families, relatives, acquaintances, neighbours, and colleagues.

To succeed in network marketing, you will want to know who amongst the people that you connect with on a daily basis matches the definition of the high status customers. What common risks are there in network marketing?
Unlike franchising, in network marketing you are only risking your time and effort and not your fortune or a mountain of debt. With network marketing you do not need high inventory levels and you do not need to create and manufacture the products and services yourself, you are simply the means by which the product of the producer reaches the customer.
Network marketing will become main-stream; it will become the dominant market trend and one which will never be stopped. The real challenge for people is no longer why they must be in network marketing but when and how they will participate as value creators and not just low-status customers.
As with any opportunity timing (WHEN) is half of the success and execution (HOW) is the other half. You have no control over “WHEN” as network marketing as a form of business trend is already happening without you.
